Cox Wood Scout Campsite

Cox Wood Scout Campsite is a woodland camp site between Wrexham and Chester. More information about the site can be found on its website here - Cox Wood Scout Camp.

The campsite has a number of buildings and a large outdoor shelter, most of which will be used to host game logistics and facilities such as the MegaCorp areas and Starship Bridge Simulator. The site has a toilet block with separate male & female facilities and hot showers. The site has outdoor water taps, and a kitchen which is being fully used by the event caterer.

There are no bunks on the site, so all attendees will need outdoor camping equipment.

Fires can only be set in designated firepits. Fires must be completely extinguished each night. Do not throw anything that is non-flammable into the fires.

Please make sure that all your rubbish is suitably bagged and disposed of before you leave site. All rubbish bags must be securely tied to discourage scavengers. Do not overfill your rubbish bags.

Please ensure that the site, and particularly the area that you are using to camp, is left as you found it. The Game Team will only have a few hours on the site to clean up, and will mainly be occupied with takedown of props and equipment. You can help us by making sure that your camp is tidy and in good order before you leave.

There are quite a few options for getting to the site via the M6. You can leave the motorway at a couple of points, but Junction 16 (A500, Crewe, Nantwich) or carrying on to the M56 at Junction 20 are probably the best (see the directions From the North below if you continue to the M56).

• Leave the motorway at Junction 16 for the A500 towards Crewe and Nantwich.
• Follow the A500 through three roundabouts.
• At the fourth (Cheerbrook) roundabout, take the 3rd turnoff (right) onto the A51 Nantwich Bypass towards Chester & Wrexham.
• Follow the A51 through three more roundabouts until you come to a crossroads with some traffic lights.
• Continue straight through the junction onto the A534 towards Wrexham.
• Turn right onto the Wrexham Road (A534).
• After crossing into Wales, take the first right onto the B5102 for Holt & Rossett.
• Passing through Holt, take a left and continue following the B5102 towards Rossett.
• Turn right on the B5102 towards Rossett.
• Take the first left towards Parkside (road becomes a narrow single-lane road).
• Continue on to a t-junction, then turn right.
• Take the next left onto Cox Lane
• Continue on Cox Lane. Ignore the left turn for “Cox Wood Holiday Cottages”, as this leads to a farm.
• The entrance to the site is on the left - a gate with a tall wooden stile beside it.

• On the M56 heading towards Wales, leave the motorway at Junction 15 for the M53 towards Chester and Wrexham.
• Continue along the M3/A55 towards Wales.
• At Junction 38, keep left for the A483 Southbound.
• On the A483, take Junction 7 for the B5102 towards Gresford, Rossett & Llay.
• Turn right at the roundabout onto the B5445 towards Gresford.
• Turn left towards Hoseley (road becomes a narrow single-lane road).
• Take the first left onto Cox Lane.
• The entrance to the site is on the right - a gate with a tall wooden stile beside it.

The most convenient train stations to the site are in Wrexham, which is reasonably well served from all over the country. Wrexham has two train stations - Wrexham General (Virgin and Arriva Wales) and Wrexham Central (Arriva Wales) - and both are a short walk from the bus station on Trinity Street. You can get direct to Wrexham General from Birmingham, but most other major train stations require at least 1 change (often at Chester from the North or the South); via London or Manchester. So anyone going cross-country from the North East or East Midlands is probably looking at a two change trip via trains.

Chester Railway Station also has a bus route to the site (essentially from the other end of the same bus route).

• The Arriva Wales Route 1 service (roughly every 15 mins) from Wrexham to Chester can drop you off at Marford Hall, which is the closest bus stop to the site. The journey takes about 17-20 minutes and leaves from Bay 7.
• The same route also leaves from Chester Railway Station (S4), and takes about 30 minutes to get to Marford Hall.

• Alternatively, taxis can be booked from both Wrexham stations, and should take 15-20 minutes in light traffic.

• From the Marford Hall Bus Stop, it is a 0.7 mile walk to the site entrance, which is a 13 minute walk according to Google.

Wrexham has quite a few local taxi firms; we've compiled a list of ones below which have a Google rating of 3 or higher. We can't guarantee their reliability because we haven't used them ourselves.

All attendees will be able to camp on site, but some people prefer to sleep in comfortable hotel beds.

Wrexham has quite a few hotels in it, if you go to booking.com you will find a variety of locations - price ranges seem pretty good for some quite high end ‘spa’ type establishments to local B&Bs, so probably also worth having a look at AirBnB if you are comfortable using them.

There are two Premier Inns in Wrexham, of which the Wrexham North Premier Inn is probably the closest hotel to the site.

There is another nearby hotel called the Trevor Arms which looks pretty close, but is also a bit more pricey.

Chester is not beyond the realms of unreasonable distance to travel to a hotel either and obviously caters strongly to the tourist market, for the reason it seems a little bit more expensive than Wrexham.
