====== Elysian ======

Elysians are a humanoid species native to the [[:sector:Elysia Sector]], near the leading spinward edge of the Orion Arm. They are the founding species of the [[:Commonality]], and the primary architects of its culture and rulership.

All Elysians have the potential to become powerful Psions. Their powers stem from a form of emotional telepathy as well as a connection with the psionically active ecosystems of their home world. Elysian scientists and mystics have long been interested in the field of psionic theory, and the potential of Elysian psionics has been explored in greater depth than for any other psionic species in the Orion Sphere.

===== Character =====

Both names tend to be vowel heavy, especially using a lot of "a", "ae", "o" and "u" sounds, and avoiding harsh-sounding consonants. Their names often have a flowing quality, and may reference philosophical or stellar phenomena, some examples being Lanthur, Iesmenae, Asdus, Nebala or Aster.

===== Appearance =====

Elysians are humanoids, distinguished by their pointed or webbed ear-tips, unblemished skin and psionically active features. Although most Elysians have similar variation in skin colour to humans, some have a pale and washed out tone in comparison - they rarely display the reddish complexion that humans can display. In some cases, their skin also appears to be partially translucent, and dark veins can be seen running close to the surface. Elysians are thought to have plant-like elements in their genetic structure, and have some ability to derive nutrients directly from their environment.

Many Elysians possess psionic abilities, which express themselves in their appearance – more powerfully psionic Elysians tend to acquire markings on their bodies or hair that glow in a psionically active area, and may be visible the rest of the time. This effect often also occurs in the iris of the eye, or on tattoo-like markings on the skin (which are said to be shaped by the psyche of each individual Elysian). The markings appear and strengthen with an individual's increasing psionic power, usually manifesting naturally during meditations and rituals in a process thought to be a psychosomatic response to opening psionic channels in the mind. Markings are highly variable, and can appear as straight lines, geometric shapes or mathematical patterns, or organic, branching swirls and curves. Population studies have made some connection between an individuals upbringing and lived environment, but the correlation is weak at best.

==== Species Trappings ====

  * Pointed ear tips, which can be physrepped using prosthetics or clip-on "elf"-style ears.
  * (Optional) Markings on the face and body, similar to tattoos, which glow in psionic auras - this effect can be achieved using UV-reactive makeup, and is more common and more pronounced in individuals with greater psionic abilities.
  * (Optional) UV-reactive irises, which can be physrepped using UV-effect contact lenses in any colour. This trapping is more common in individuals with greater psionic abilities.
  * (Optional) Washed out, unblemished skin, which can be achieved using foundation or other makeup. Some Elysians also have partially translucent skin, which shows up as thin veins in some areas.

  * Psionic - Elysians start with 2 Psi Points and may purchase powers from the [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Coercion]], [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Psionic Resonance]] and [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Psychosomatics]] Root Paths, as well as their Branch paths
  * Elysians are the Core Species of the Commonality, and when members of that Faction may purchase Commonality Status for 2 character points per rank.
  * Elysians are attuned to Commonality [[:nexus tree|Nexus Trees]], and can travel through them when the path is opened.

Elysians have 1 locational hit and a Death Count of 200 seconds. All Elysians are [[:psionics skills|Psions]], and have 2 [[:psionics skills#psi points]]. Elysians also have access to the greatest variety of psionic abilities in all of known space, and may purchase powers from the [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Coercion]], [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Psionic Resonance]] and [[:elysian_psionic_paths#Psychosomatics]] Root Paths, as well as any Branch paths that derive from them.

Elysians are the Core Species of the Commonality. They may purchase Commonality Status for 2 character points per rank. 

Elysians are able to use their network of psionically engineered [[:nexus tree|Nexus Trees]] to open stable wormholes across vast distances. These portals can only be used by Elysians and other species who have been psionically altered in specific ways.
