-The galaxy is a dangerous place, populated by dangerous people, and violence is always a possibility during a tense encounter. Simulated LRP combat is a fundamental element of the game, and all players should be aware of the basic rules for combat. The potential for combat is always present in-game, but there are systems in place to minimise your involvement with it should combat break out around you.  +===== Fighting at LRP =====
 +
+At OSLRP events, in-person combat may break out in a wide variety of scenarios, and attendees must be able to respond appropriately and safely. LRP combat is fundamentally an extension of play-fighting or stage-fighting, where the intent is to land realistic-seeming blows without actually hurting anyone. In most UK LRP Games, including OSLRP, characters participating in combat use specially constructed prop weapons and shields to simulate melee weapons - more information on what is appropriate to use can be found on the [[Game Items]] page. We also use Nerf-style blasters to simulate energy weapons, as well as reduced-strength bows or crossbows and soft-tipped projectiles to simulate other ranged weapons.
 +
+  * Characters participating in combat can use these specially made props to strike (using "pulled" blows), block, parry etc as if they were fighting with real weapons, according to their personal abilities.
+  * When characters strike each other, special weapon effects, etc. are moderated by the game's other rules (see below).
+  * LRP Melee Weapons and shields can be used to block or parry incoming attacks, as they have been constructed to be able to do so. If you deflect an attack, it does not count as having struck you.
+    * Some special [[Calls_Effects#Calls]] still have their special effect if you block or parry them, although you do not take damage from the blow - these are DISARM, FREEZE, KNOCKOUT, REPEL, ROOT and STRIKEDOWN.
+    * You should not attempt to block an attack with items that have not been specifically build to do so. If an attack strikes another type of held (including a blaster), the attack is considered to have struck the holding limb (except in the case of the [[Calls_Effects#SUNDER]] call).
+  * All attendees participating in combat should try their best to be aware of their surroundings, especially where they are walking, and attempt to keep away from hazards or pushing opponents into hazards.
