Psionics Skills

Some species, most notably the Elysians, are capable of manifesting powerful mental effects to influence other minds, or event the physical world. These powers are poorly understood by non-psionic cultures, although they are generally thought to tap into some as-yet-undescribed quantum mechanism or universal force. Psionic abilities can manifest as things like telepathy, telekinesis, or the ability to induce psychosomatic wounds or speed healing.

  • Psionic powers are purchased as ranked skills.
  • Using Psionic abilities costs Psi Points, which can be bought as a separate skill.
  • Each power set has 6 ranks, the final one always increases your Psi Points by 1.
  • Some Psionic skills have other Psionic skills as prerequisites - you must have a certain rank in another skill before you can purchase them.
  • Psionic Abilities may deliver their effects as Calls, or via show-me lammie powers. See the power description for details.
  • Some Psionic Abilities may require a Referee to use.

Psionic powers are purchased as skills, and drain Psi Points when used. A psion's pool of Psi Points determines how many powers they can use in a day, and recharges overnight or after certain powerful psionic rituals.

, and are usually delivered either via calls or special lammies that the psychic will show to their victim. Psy powers drain the mental energy of the user, which can be recharged by meditation or special stimulant injectors. Locations that empower psy abilities are represented by UV light, and individuals with psi powers are encouraged to use UV-reactive dyes or makeup to show that they are empowered when in these areas. These locations also allow the use of more complex psi powers within them.

Psi powers are delivered either by game calls, or by laminated powers cards that the psionic will show you - these cards describe the effects of the power, and you should respond accordingly.

Most (but not all) psy powers are initiated by the Mesmerize Call – this power locks two minds together and allows the psion to use more complex powers (usually those that require lammies rather than simple game calls).

Psionic powers are purchased on linear pathways 1-5 for a flat cost. The 6th point on a path increases the character psi points by 1 instead of granting a power (so after a point gaining psi points becomes more effective by diversifying powers than increasing raw strength).

Paths cost 1 character point per rank to increase.

Linear pathways are easier to assign a value for on a database (basically each path is granted an integer value from 0-6)

Would be much easier from a database perspective to have psionics trees that were essentially linear progressions.

Specific psion species are granted access to one or more paths. Prerequisites are fine.
