This wiki page is for people who are coming across Orion Sphere LRP (OSLRP) for the first time, and aren't really sure how to find out more. The wiki looks large and intimidating, and although there are pages which have information to help it's hard to find them if you don't know how or where to look. This page will run through rough summary of the game, and provide links to relevant pages with more information.
Firstly, this wiki is divided into 4 main sections - on a PC or tablet, you should see these sections on the left side. On mobile, you will see them if you press the floating Sidebar button.
The Tag Cloud below the section headings lists wiki pages that have been tagged with certain key topics.
Orion Sphere LRP is a science fiction live roleplaying game that runs immersive events in various locations across the United Kingdom.
OSLRP events are ticketed events that usually run over the course of a whole weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, and are suitable for all ages. At each event, you roleplay as a character along with other attendees doing the same, all in a shared fictional sci-fi universe. During this “in-character” time, everyone's interactions and exploits collectively tell a story, and with each subsequent event the story continues, usually from a different perspective and in a different location. Attendees usually camp in-character, and can either self-cater or buy a Meal Ticket which will provide their meals for the weekend.
How your character interacts with the story and with everyone else is moderated through the game's rules - you need to know enough of the rules to play your character (about 2 sides of A4), but there are some extra rules for characters that want to get involved in specific areas like science and engineering. Some of our attendees are crew who volunteer their time to play various different temporary roles, or help keep everything going behind the scenes to maintain as immersive an experience as possible.
Many people will have already played another LRP game, either in the UK or elsewhere, before considering OSLRP. In general, OSLRP is similar to other UK Festival LRP systems, but we have some unique elements as well as some core design principles that differ from the norm.
Two major differences with other major UK Fest games stem from our sci-fi setting and consequent use of technology, especially our Starship Simulators - specially set up groups of computers that allow a crew to experience flying a starship together as their characters. The other element that no science fiction game can do without futuristic blaster combat - we use NERF-type dart blasters to simulate these, as well as specially constructed foam weapons for melee weapons.
Orion Sphere LRP is designed to be highly competitive, but less directly combative between player characters as some other LRP systems. There are many things to compete over, such as the favour of certain figures, outcome of various plotlines, bounties or missions to complete and lots more.
The game takes place 4000 years in the future, in a large area of space centred around our Solar System. The major powers in the setting are the four playable Factions, each of which has a distinctive culture and feel, and competes for resources, power and territory. Each Faction is composed of many different playable Species, living in hundreds of different planets and star systems. Mega-Corporations work across the Factions and guard their particular secrets and technologies behind layers of initiation and favour. The galaxy has had many civilisations rise and fall over billions of years, and leave behind mysterious Precursor remains ripe for exploration.
Orion Sphere LRP as an organisation works throughout the year to run and manage every event, including the logistics, bookings, and other neccessary parts of providing a fun experience. It also coordinates teams of other volunteers to write stories, play baddies, and generally make each event run smoothly.
Everyone who attends our events agrees to abide by the rules of the game, as well as the various policies that ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe time. Other people who want to run events in the OSVerse, as well as Traders who wish to attend our events, have their own set of guidelines.
